The concept I am presenting is simple. A dad, called by God to lead his family, recognizes his role as a leader and protector of his home.  He takes initiative to model and teach his children about purity. Ideally, mom or another respected lady close to the family has already had "the Talk" with your daughter. I highly recommend the Passport2Purity resource from FamilyLife Today (see Passport Review at the right). For us, this event took place when my girls were in 6th grade.
For girls, this talk includes the element of the coming changes in their bodies. Still, it is the moment when they either learn for the first time or confirm what they've heard from their friends about what sex is all about. The beauty of the Passport 2 Purity curriculm is that it's presented from a biblical perspective. (The best part is they do all of the talking...)
Where this concept comes into play is as they get older, a dad needs to have a sincere conversation with his daughter about the way a male thinks about sex. The sexual drive a young man has intersecting with a young lady who longs for love and affection can quickly lead to intercourse. I say it often when speaking to audiences about this topic: "Boys will use love to get sex and girls will use sex to get love."

Here's what it looks like:
  • Dad makes reservations at a real nice restaurant. The kind of place where you have to dress up (Yes, you may need to wear a tie.)
  • Dad sends his daughter a formal invitation.
  • Dad picks her up and models for her how she a young lady should be treated. (Open the door for her, escort her on your arm, pull out the chair for her, you get the picture...)
  • Dad takes his "date" to a special location. Somewhere that she will always remember as the location for your conversation.
  • Dad unfolds for her, the reason for the date. (See "My Script")
  • Dad presents her with a token to mark the occasion. Preferably a ring to be worn until her wedding day and presented to her husband.
  • Dad also commits to keep his life pure.
  • Both dad and daughter sign a Covenant to keep themselves pure.
The key is to make this memorable and meaningful.
